As general and compulsory subject, English has been taught since the date of continuation of Course Curriculum at the college. It is only after 2004-05 that English has been introduced as one of the Major subjects at the college with the 4 no’s of faculty members in the department affiliated to the esteemed Dibrugarh University. The department offers undergraduate courses in major/honours and as pass course English subject. The syllabus for English Honours & Core Papers covers the history of English Language and Literature, Linguistics, Criticism, English communication as well as genres of literature. Apart from impartment of formal curriculum, the department conducts Seminar/workshop/Symposium/training programmes for students in soft skill development, spoken English, writing skill etc. where students of other departments are also allowed to participate. The students of English department annually publish wall magazine for the department entitled ‘EDEN’. The department also encourages the students to participate in co-curricular activities such as Games & Sports, cultural events & community outreach programmes. The alumni of English department are engaged in public and private sectors, entrepreneurship and social services. The faculty members participate in various academic activities, research and publications apart from curricular and co-curricular activities continually held at the college.The department of English has been trying its best to make growth of fitful citizens with the aspiration that they would come out to be the resourceful human beings for the development of society. Efforts are given to educate the children through homely environment and friendly behaviour. Teaching methods such as lecture, demonstration, problem solving, question & answer, group discussion etc. are applied in classroom situations. Interactive and counseling sessions are periodically held for improvement of teaching learning process. English Speech practices are conducted by the Head of the department in every academic session. Remedial teaching is also done looking at the necessities of students. Spoken and written test of 10 marks is conducted before every Odd Semester examination as part of internal evaluation from the year of introducing CBCS, 2019. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is followed for learning outcome. Intention is also given for all round development. Our students take part in cultural, games and sports, NSS, and other co-curricular activities. .
